Who Says Pleasure is Not Productive?

by Anna Olinova

Salvation Mountain (Art Piece)
Whip It (Film)
Truffle Mac n' Cheese (Food)
With Arms Outstretched (Song)
Death of a Salesman (Literature)
My Grampa (Person)

In distilling these 6 things and the impact they have on me and why, I realized that they all related to the Jeff Keedy essay "Style is Not a Four Letter Word." They all essentially tie into principles about how enjoyable life experiences serve an important function in our lives, about travel and about rebelling against social expectations that suck the life out of life.  American culture seems to have placed a stigma on enjoyment and happiness (in that it is viewed as frivolous and encroaches on the corporate regime) and all of the proposals intend to alleviate that. After all, as long as you are a productive human, why not take pleasure in what you spend your life doing?
