Emma's Sustainabilty Project
I responded to the article discussing Nick Cave's work and the way he creates treasure out of trash. The specific quote, "The transforming qualities inherent in society's most overlooked rejects, " really got me thinking. I love magazines and I have always kept the cool ones to use for collaging, wrapping gifts, and different things. I wanted to create a little inspirational look book out of a magazine. I grabbed one of the old magazines that the school library was going to trash. I folded the pages to create new compositions that could lead to a new color palette, imagery, layout, or different things to inspire a new design that you are starting.
STEPHANIE TREINEN // WRITING
For my writing I was influenced by the Ecstasy show and while reading through the forward and essays within the show book I fixated on a few key phrases I saw essential to my project at that point in time. The type I used is a sort of paraphrasing of a few different ideas expressed within my research.

Color Version -
I created a visual commentary on our current situation on restoring the ecological damages that production has caused, in a form of a collage. Most sci-fi films set in the future are either set in space or another planet hinting and maybe commenting on how Earth, in its whole, is a depleting resource. Some movies have even gone so far as depicting Earth in the future as a 'dead planet'.
My commentary and reaction was influenced by this lovely article, and how the Obama administration plans to halt off-shore drilling in the Eastern Gulf. Considering that my commentary is set in a dystopia, where a totalitarian government is in charge, the government has allowed no limitations to off-shore drilling and oil drilling in general which has caused the planet Earth to deplete enormously.
"Space is the place"
For my senior thesis I am interested in understanding the present and current events through the use of science fiction film genre
